Such beautiful lovers as I recall,
they became indignant houseguests.
It was a paradox, rain on a sunny day.
A mistake that could be rectified with clouds.
The phrase was regrettable, too honest to retract,
he knew it, she forgave him, then changed the locks.
Clouds finally took control and rain came
down in the contour of windblown sheets.
When the albatross appeared on the roof
we all knew it had gone too far.
The water subsided, took the garden into the channel,
the albatross stayed – our penance for not building the ark.
