Maybe it is nothing,

just geese heading South.

Or it may be a miracle.

 

How did it come to be

this seasonal ritual?

 

Why the first bird

and certainly why others

would follow?

 

Was it all by chance?

Can purpose be random?

 

I do not have the fervor

of religious certainty,

the confidence

of scientific calculation.

 

I can only wonder

if the universe knows

what it is doing
