One day in fall,
a day that was already enough,
light from the setting sun paused
for a moment between crimson and gold.
Branches exploded in firelight.
Seconds stretched into minutes
as the trees rustled ablaze.
I watched the fire spread through the stand,
birds flitted in and out, amber bees
came to and from their hive.
Then the sun passed into purple clouds
and the fire cooled to a violet glow.
I thought, there is no end
to the joy in this world
nor wonder too much to bear.
