Broken skin on the birch trees;
curled silver taking in the light
and returning a muted glow to the air.
I wonder, do they prefer this smoky light
to the carnival glare of unbridled sun?
There is a gravity about the atmosphere,
as if they hold some deciduous secret,
waiting for it to be unlocked.
It’s all about trees at the bar…climb on up.
very cool… i agree on the atmosphere…and always found birches the most elegant trees… on my way to work in the middle of a roundabout is a bunch of birch trees and i greet them every morning…
you honor the striking beauty of the birches so well with a touch of intelligence, the sort of wisdom that only seems to come with unanswered, or unanswerable questions.
..ah, yes—full of secrets you’ll ne’er know when it’ll get revealed before your ears… and everyday, we wait patiently & with increasing curiosity… smiles…
No doubt they hold a multitude of secrets.. they’ve witnessed untold mysteries. I love There is a gravity and atmosphere in your short poem that is weightier than the few words.
Love the notion of a ‘deciduous secret’ Ron – lovely stuff.
(I have discovered if I only have blogger running and naught else – things are a touch speedier – keyboard still playing up – missing out letters and spaces left right and centre – thank heavens for spell check!)

You have captured what I feel about birches exactly – the mystery, as if they are keeping a secret they will unfold with new leaves come spring.

I agree, Ron. Birches and their silvery color create a very special kind of atmosphere.

Interesting. They are quite solemn trees, but thinking about it, they seem to laugh in the sunshine too, just like humans.

What secrets will the trees reveal if they could only talk? They have been witnesses to a lot of things.
