Going down to the river in this ivory robe
Going down in this ivory robe
Gonna wait in the water
’til the Spirit comes
Gonna wait ’til the Spirit comes
Been down in the water
The Spirit came
Been down and the Spirit came
Been down to the river in this ivory robe
Been down in this ivory robe
Been blessed with amazing grace
I been down in this world
Been down in this world
Been down and the Spirit came
Lift me up oh Lord
Oh Lord lift me up
Lift me up with amazing grace
Gonna sing for my Lord
Oh Lord let me sing
Let me sing with amazing grace
I’m going down to the river in this ivory robe
Going down in this ivory robe
Writing lyrics/songs at the Bar tonight. I can’t carry a tune in a bucket…here’s my attempt at something like an old time gospel song.
Come on and sing-a-long with dVerse poets.

Like this. It was this kind of music, mixed with work songs, blues riffs, and piano barrelhouse that set up the true American music – Jazz. Very authentic form here, and the use of repetition and rhythm makes it toe-tapping and uplifting. Well done!

Reminds me of somthing sung by Allison Krauss — like that down to the river to pray… I heard it sung once live by her with Robert Plant and T-bone Burnett as choir… amazing.. wonder if she would sing your lyrics.
