The sun was so low it was good as gone, no tripod, no working flash – open the lens, hold breath, press shutter button tenderly, very tenderly. Cropped and lightened a bit in photoshop…What I like about this photo is its testimony to my ability to still summon a bit of tenderness when needed…

Bravo, good sir!
I am always happy when I can say I hand-held a shutter-speed of less than 1/30sec.
One of the greatest tips I ever heard/learned was to think of “squeezing” with the whole hand rather than thinking of “pushing” the shutter button with the one finger.
It is amazing what a difference that little bit of visualization can make.
This one is truly a beauty of tenderness.

Yes it was a pleasant surprise given I’m a shaky old man. So first thing this morning I grab my camera and start practicing “squeezing” and I feel much more steady…maybe now I can get a few more pics in focus. Thanks!
