Ah Van Gogh, that is a conversation I would love to have with you. He is the most interesting of painters for me. I will think about the relationship of photography and painting.
I think a mistake I often become entangled in is looking for the “static moment” in the viewer, when to press the button. I do have a decent eye for photographing animals because I concentrate on their movement, try to find the rhythm of their movement so I know when to take the shot. Otherwise my photographs tend to be rather pedestrian. Also, I do not photograph enough people…too many landscapes. I won’t cut off my ear by I should try to channel Van Gogh through my camera.=)
Too many landscapes? No such thing.
Yours are fabulous. And Silvia is right. You ARE painting. With light.
I often think about photography as painting with light. Especially with the Lensbabies. They’re like different brushes.
Are you familiar Henri Cartier-Breson? I think you would dig him. His thing was “the decisive moment”. He would frame the shot, and then wait for the perfect instant to release the shutter. His images show it. An amazing eye for composition, form and line, with a photojournalist’s sensibility.

I learned a lot about the movement in his paintings, looking through the viewer of my camera.
