Below the slow squall of twilight
water shimmers like mercury.
Two dogs reel in the lapping surf,
my father pretends to chase them.
We do not always speak a common language,
but the dogs’ antics
and something in the honey-suckled air,
has drawn us out of our corners today.
Now, as daylight falls prey to the moon,
we stand together in the forging dark.
I love the lines, “water shimmers like mercury” and “has drawn us out of our corners today”
Incredible piece.
