After Reading a Line About Love
“I am trying, but I just can’t see how it’s done.”
Oh, to be at once full, and hollow, as a bell,
to read sign by the light in your eyes.
After Reading a Line About Identity
“Who we wish to be is invariably part of who we are.”
What is that cricket chirping in my ear?
it coulda been different
it coulda been different.
you coulda been better
you coulda been better….
Survivalists
The id wants what it cannot have.
The super-ego denies the want of anything at all.
How such a thing does not die from doubt is a miracle
or something else we cannot comprehend.
I really love the second two.
“it coulda been different…
you coulda been better” I feel this so much. Always the cricket chirping.
Survivalists is amazing. “How such a thing does not die from doubt is a miracle”. So true, and wonderfully and brilliantly drafted line.
The first piece on Love seems more mysterious, less penetrable. I adore the line about the bell.

Thanks Holly, of all the voices in my head, the cricket is the most damning, and possibly the most mistaken, its a shame because otherwise I love the sound of crickets

Yes, I get that, too. The part about it being mistaken, yet constant….

I love the over all structure of this. And the line, “Oh, to be at once full, and hollow, as a bell,” is fantastic. I really love that line. I’ve read this several times now, and will read many more times. I think there is so much here that rereading will uncover. This is really well done!

agreed on the “to be at once full, and hollow, as a bell” – there’s more to sound from this one
